Hannaford issues recall of ground beef sold in NH, Maine, Mass.

Apr. 23—Hannaford Supermarkets this week announced a recall for store brand 80% and 85% lean ground beef products sold at select stores in New Hampshire at the beginning of April.

Hannaford Supermarkets said Monday "in an abundance of caution" it is notifying customers of a public health alert issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture'sFood Safety and Inspection Service for ground beef produced by manufacturer Greater Omaha Packing Co. that may be contaminated with E.coli.

The alert involves Hannaford brand 80% and 85% ground beef products purchased at select stores between April 4-16, 2024 with a sell-by date of April 6-16, 2024.

Hannaford advised customers to check their storage and freezer areas for this product and refrain from eating it.

Product or its packaging may be returned to the store for a full refund, store officials said.

No injuries or illnesses have been reported, and no impacted beef was sold once the health alert was issued, according to Hannaford.

The CDC says E.coli can be deadly and cause dehydration, bloody diarrhea, and abdominal cramps anywhere from 1-10 days after exposure. Most people recover within a week; however, it is possible to develop a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome.

This condition is most common in children under the age of 5 and symptoms include easy bruising, pallor and decreased urination.
